The Blue Dress and The Glass Slipper

Disney Cinderella, I still can't get over how amazing it was. Other than the funny details in the story line, one thing that truly amazed me is the costumes. Sandy Powell, a British costume designer is the one who created the Cinderella royal ball dresses.

Sandy Powell, 54, born in London, studied in St. Martin's School of Art, has been nominated ten times for the Academy Award for Costume Design, winning three for Shakespeare in Love (1998), The Aviator (2004), and The Young Victoria (2009). She has also received nine BAFTA Award nominations, winning for Velvet Goldmine and The Young Victoria. She won numerous other awards in costume design for the latter film. She is frequently associated with Martin Scorsese, having designed the costumes for six of his films.
This 12 layers dress, had 18 tailors who used more than 550 hours to complete it. Sandy wanted it to look as huge as possible, like clouds or huge waves from water colour drawings when Cinderella is running, and they actually did it. They used about 3 types or more of materials in this dress which includes satin, nylon, etc.
Apart from that, Sandy also designed 9 different edition of the dress, using 18 tailors and 500 hours to create them.

Sandy also created the costumes of Cinderella's stepmother, Lady Tremaine; the two stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella; and the awesome fairy godmother.
BONUS!
This is the Cinderella's wedding dress, isn't it just gorgeous? When Lily James first tried on this dress, it actually caught on fire because she stood too close to the switches which ruined the first layer of the dress.

Now, its time for THE GLASS SLIPPER. Sandy actually make 8 crystal shoes but non of them actually worked for the walking. The one in the movie, its the magic will effects.

However, Disney had invited 11 luxury brand to make their own design of crystal shoes. Lily James had already wore the one from Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin for events.

Here are all the designer crystal shoes. Most favourite to least favourite.

Paul Andrew
Salvatore Ferragmo
Jerome C. Rousseau
Jimmy Choo
Nicholas Kirkwood
Alexandre Birman
Stuart Weitzman
Charlotte Olympia
Christian Louboutin / Manolo Blahnik
Rene Caovilla
