How To: Save Smart

As a teenager, I have been spending way too much for the past couple of months. I would buy tons of clothing items every month, well.. I didn't even have time to wear them. And I just bought an iPad mini two months back, but that's an essential for me coz I have been using it every single day.

However,
I realized that I did not spend much last month actually. I was kind off shock, in the mean time, I was proud of myself! So, I was wondering how did I did that, and I decided to share it with all of you.

1. Think more than twice before buy

I actually find that this is the best way to save ourselves from buying any unnecessary bits and pieces that we do not need in our life. I have been wanting to change my phone forever and I've been doing some research on new phones, especially the new iPhones. However, the new phones does not give me the feeling of "TAKE MY MONEY! I NEED YOU!" every time I visit the stores. "Every time" I mean A LOT of times! So, that's one way for me to save.

I have had the Baker watch in my mind for years and I always did not get the chance to, even though its just appear in front of my eyes every time, bragging about how classy he is. So, one day I decided to get it, but I just turned away from it when I was in the store. Then, I can't help myself and went back to the store two days later.
Well, guess what? Lucky me, I got a 20% off on that day when that bad boy was normally on a 10% discount! I saved about $200 on that. Also, I used the coupon that I got for 15% discount. I got another $60 coupon from that purchase. See, what I did there? You just have to follow your heart!

Make a wishlist and keep it for a year, see whether you really need it in your life

2. Value the piece

When you need to buy something, try to do a comparison between two models or two stores or maybe more than two. I was lost when having to make a choice between the Marc by Marc Jacobs Baker Watch and the Daniel Wellington Classic Lady St. Andrews. Well, I have been wanting to be an owner of the Baker Watch for a really long time, but the DW watch just looks amazingly classy! After debating for almost a whole year, I decided to go for the Baker watch because I think if I own the DW, my heart will still be wanting the Baker. That's how I value pieces, follow your heart and see which choice will never make you regret of the purchase.

3. Reward yourself

What I mean of "reward yourself" is not by having a huge splurge on something. What I actually mean is do at least a good deeds every day (eg. open the door for strangers, help pick things up, etc), or did not buy anything from a shopping trip you had this afternoon. If you have done any of those things, pop in a $10 note into your piggy bank. Seal it and never take it out until the very last day of the year when you need to save it in your bank account for gaining more interest in your savings.

4. Punish yourself

This would actually be fun though! If you did not do any good deeds or you had shopped even if its a tiny little naughty splurge, feed that fat piggy with a $20 note. That should do! I bet that you will be rich in no time!

5. Online shopping

Online shopping is actually the worst thing that you would ever do if you try to save your money. People will always go overboard because we cant see the actual thing that we have already added into the shopping cart.

But, if you can get a greater deal in buying your must have, that would be great because you can actually save tons from there. Try to find out if there is any coupon code before you click that purchase button. Unfortunately, I missed using the blogger coupon code given to me by BlakTied, but I was really satisfied with my purchase after I got my order in the mail yesterday, so that did not bothered me that much as I am in love with my personalised cuff bracelet. But still, I was kind off sad though. I felt really silly and stupid after telling my mom. So, lesson learned!

Also, always look out for any sales event of your favourite stores and write down a list of your essentials, even if you are not online shopping. I know, the hardest thing is to always fix to your list!

<< Setting a budget is very important too!!! >>
Only spend 40% (that is the most, never exceed 50%) of what you have, save the others.

The main thing of me not spending that much last month was because I was having my finals. I was not in the mood to go out and was so stress out. I was not in the mood for shopping! That is insane! Shopping is like the main thing in my life, I would be so thrilled by just spending time for window shopping even if it was just online window shopping. Yeap, that's me!
